What is it like to meet with a professional counselor?
We think it’s a little like talking with an old friend. One who knows you well, listens thoroughly and cares so much about you that they will tell you the truth, gently — where others might simply tell you what they think you’ll want to hear.
We are highly skilled professionals and compassionate listeners, capable of helping you create change in your own life.

Christina Gates, LPCC-S
15 years of counseling experience has taught me that we must examine what is happening beneath your symptoms. Your body holds on to painful memories and the engine inside revs continually until it finally cannot withstand any longer. It emits uncomfortable body sensations and emotions until the pain becomes enough to get your full attention. I’ll help you “turn off the engine” of trauma so you can engage a system of thoughts, beliefs, and emotions that help you feel more like yourself again.

Frequently Asked Questions
How soon can we meet?
Many times we have appointments available within 3-10 days. If you’re ready to schedule, you can get started now by scheduling an appointment online. Or give us a call and our intake coordinators will be happy to get you set up with a professional who can help.
How long will my appointments be?
The first session is a 60 minute meeting where I get to know you or your relationship. Future sessions are typically 45-55 minutes long. These are where we get down to the work of counseling. At times, 90-120 minute sessions may be needed in order to tackle important topics in a sensitive and thorough way.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes. We have contracts with many major insurance companies. If we do not have a contract already, we can help submit a claim for your out-of-network benefits too. Unfortunately, we do not have contracts with Medicaid or Medicare at this time.
How do I pay for services?
We accept check and credit card payments (include HSA and FSA accounts). Most of our clients choose to save their credit card to their account for ease, to pay for their copayments on the date of service.
Otherwise, payment may be made at time of service via Credit Card or Check. No cash payments are accepted.
We do not keep account balances.
How often will we meet?
Our clients usually attend weekly appointments during the initial phase of therapy (about 1-2 months). The pace tends to taper offer to twice per month, then monthly, then quarterly appointments when you and your therapist determine that your needs or your relationship has stabilized and you are actively using your new skills to maintain your progress.
Do you offer appointments around my work or school schedule?
We do everything we reasonably can to make our high quality care options accessible to the community. Our appointment times are convenient to real life demands. We offer appointments between 8am and 8pm, online via secure video chat, weekends, and we’ve intentionally selected offices close to I-270 with free on-site parking for commuters.
Do you prescribe medication?
Alfa Counseling hosts the psychiatric practice of Dr. Sarah Rossetter for medication management services.
Our counselors provide talk therapies such as professional counseling and marriage and family therapy. We offer talk therapies such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Marriage Counseling, EMDR Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, Trauma-Focused CBT, and other evidence-based techniques. We do happily offer to coordinate your care with your medical professionals as needed.
Will you testify in my court case?
We understand that from time-to-time our clients do become involved in disputes that are emotionally taxing and energy draining. During these complex times, we protect our role as our clients’ most trusted confidante. For this reason, we are not available for expert testimony. We do not provide expert determinations related to parenting, custody, competence to stand trial, or any other evaluation for official use.
